This map -- which can only indicate the larger reservations, National parks and forests, etc. -- is still a good overview of the U.S. native land situation. In particular, it shows large amounts of "federally owned land" that were almost always carved forcibly away from treaty,determined and bounded reservations. In general, National Forests are not really public citizen assets. Their timber is sold extremely cheaply to a variety of large industrial concerns, who often clearcut it with no restoration.
