OK, now. This is the BIG story for 3 North Dakota tribes: Standing Rock and Spirit Lake Sioux -- but Turtle Mountain Chippewas are the First Nation with this energy efficient, non-consuming wind-driven electrical generating technology up first, September, 1996. Photos from the project engineer's page show first the big equipment moving a giant wind turbine into place, next, the engineer himself steadying the cable that mounts the first giant rotor. All the tribes plan "wind farms" to become independent of power monopolies and perhaps even sell exported wind-generated electrical power. North Dakota's roaring prairie winds lead these Native nations -- with already super-high winter power-fuel survival costs -- to take technological and economic leadership in the newest of non-exploitive power technology. It harmonizes with traditions of working with, not against, nature. An awesome, admirable venture, where small, isolated Native Nations provide leadership to the whole world, that is right in line with ancient cultures where wind was called taku-skan-skan,   power of the sacred. It sure don't fit them quaint, colorful stereotypes, does it?
