With a large bird above me, I am walking around the sky. I entrust myself to the wind. CAUTION - CAUTIONFor now, use the MAIN (TOPIC) INDEX. This textfile has become so large it is quite slow to load, and it is missing about 50 reviews. If you want to find a book by a particular author, use NetScape's FIND feature (edit menu). Use last name. If you want to find a book by title, use find, and the first 3 words of the title. Because of the big crash-burn I now have to reconstruct the (local) database that manages reviews. For starters, I've got them all downloaded. Big$ Baddie$ -- new feature tackling children's books which are best-sellers, classics, prizewinners -- and shouldn't be. Tells why they're bad, provides alternatives and informative websites for integrating selections into class study.. Currently shot-at: Brother Eagle, Sister Sky, Susan Jeffers. On - Line Bookstore -- Credit card on-line orders of Native Astronomy and Star Lore books from amazon.com, 2.5 million on-line books. This is a new feature, I'll be adding more links. You're NOT ordering books from me, I've just pulled Indian books from Amazon.com's big on-line catalog. On-line ordering and book delivery takes place with them. Shelves available for STARS, PLANTS, and CALIFORNIA POMOS. OYATE: Great source of Native-evaluated children's books, and other Native lit educational services American Indians in Children's Literature blog by Debbie Reese, Nambe Pueblo and University of Illinois is an excellent source for discussion of individual books and recommended books and websites.

This section will always be under construction in one sense for "of the making of books there is no end" and there are a lot of oldies but goodies to catch up on also. I'd apprciate it if you sent me some reviews of Indian books. Look over reviews here, and see what info is necessary. Notice the contact info (for ordering books). Describe the book, if you think there are good or bad aspects, say why! Please write your review carefully, off-line, with the book in front of you, and standards of adult professionalism. It is essential you describ the contents; if you wish to do a long critical review or article, I can start a section for those. But I want all writings to be literate and edited by their authors as if for any publication hundreds, ultimately thousands, are going to read! This is especially important when Indian reviewers negatively criticize books by non-Indians. I would especially like to get and describe here sets of cultural curriculum materials developed by tribes or Native groups or educators. These are often quite hard to find, not in libraries, and mainly available locally. If you have such materials that you would like to list for purchase by libraries, schools, and for reference and ideas for other Indian groups planning similar curricula, please contact me. Elsewhere at this site: A collection of STORIES written originally by young Native writers-on-InterNet plus traditional Native stories. Cultural stories about traditional native foods (plus nutrition info, many recipes, and teacher aids for teaching nutrition); Native language resources on TRADITIONAL NATIVE FOODS, HEALTH, NUTRITION. |
