NOTE: where a museum is general, we cut to the chase -- that part of its Native collection that's on-line. Most official on-line museums (as opposed to those created by devoted amateurs, such as Nicolas Pioch) are more talk than pix, especially for their Indian collections.
National Museum of the American Indian--This is the Heye/Smithsonian Museum, in New York City.
This Path We Travel--One of just a few Indian pix from the new Smithsonian, actually taken from a book/catalog.
Native American Resources at the Smithsonian: National Museum of American History--almsot all text, describes scholarships and internships, a Native herb garden, etc.
Canadian Museum of Civilization - Gallery Tour-- In Toronto. Several good native galleries; a good Mayan exhibition. Others under construction, literally, physiucally.
The Heard Museum--Lots of text about this museum, calendar of events, and 2 on-line native art shows.
The Native American Fine Art Movement Resource Guide--On-line book published by Heard Museum) by Margaret Arcvhuleta et al, intended as a resource for teachers. Free slide set to teachers writing on school letterhead
Cradles, Corn and Lizards--Exhibit at Heard Museum, Phoenix, AZ
Watchful Eyes--Exhibit of Native Women's art at Heard Museum
Allan Houser-- The Allan Houser Estate
Institute of American Indian Arts -- Santa Fe institution which has helped and supported many Indian artists (good collection, not on web display as yet)
Minneapolis Instute of Arts - Art of the Americas Program--small web exhibit, rather good collection (not always on display)
Science Museum of Minnesota: Interactive Maya Exhibit--The best of the on-line museum exhibits, there are lessons in Mayan astronomy, overviews of major city sites, clothing, languages. Many activities are on-screen interactive, but there are off-line science lessons (such as the chemistry of how stone weathers) too. Sponsored by NSF.
Dallas Museum of Art Online / Museum Galleries--Dallas, Texas; there is a large Native art collection here, much of it not included in the web display.
Royal British Columbia Museum - First Peoples' Exhibit--Nice Northwest Coast mask, and a few other items, not a large exhibit. A text-only page gives a brief description of the First Nations collection and research materials.
Detroit Institure of Arts web exhibit on GLRAIN--prepared as web gallery from special exhibit material, book or catalog.
Glenbow Western Canada Art museum--Located in Calgary, Alberta; big Indian collection, archives
University of Michigan anthro museum:New World High Civilizations--at Ann Arbor.
Pueblo Cultural Center-- Albuquerque, NM
